“Alaa…dia tiru U.S. laa tu…!”

Ok…now its official, IKEA stole my idea!! I’m a frequent surfer for their website, and yes, they have used my idea without permission!

Except we are the combination of both and theirs were in different beds. So whats my point here? Previously, early in 2008, i designed something after coming back from IKEA. A dustbin which can be retracted out from our kitchen cabinet as i cant find it in IKEA. But I never manage to materialise it as i dont have the time to do so. Later in 2009, IKEA came out with a dustbin which does the same as what Ive planned, but cheaper material. We laughed and joked about it saying that, if I've sold that idea to IKEA, we could've been a millionaire by now! HAhahahaa…

Ok, now, let me go straight to the point of my story, NO! IKEA DID NOT STOLE MY IDEA. bet cha guys no already right? hhehe. The reason? IKEA is not the first company to produce such things. even the dustbin, i got the concept from a mega huge – super expensive dustbin company, and redesign it so that its cheaper and retractable on a slider. Even the beds, as you know, i googled it around to get that idea. “Ya, so whats your point??”. Ok.

My point is, Malaysians looooooovee to criticise ideas of another Malaysian just because they knew someone from overseas has done it before. “Alaa…dia tiru IKEA laa tu..”, “Alaa, cerita HMM tu nak tiru LOTR laa tu…”, “Alaaa, lagu malique nk tiru eminem laa tu..”. I dont pretty understand when people blast other peoples ideas. Yes, they are the first to do, but whats wrong of elaboration of ideas? improvement of design bla..bla..even if they are not the first, it mustve trigger the idea from seomething else. but i dont mean REBADGE ok? Or, direct copy but just change the name. I dont condone Malaysians making a movie of spiderman, exact same costume and all, but change the name tu “Spidermeng”. Hheheh. But you get my point…but what would you say about the Zoo movie versus the Zookeeper? what about a verse from a too phat song was the exact same words later by Jay-Z?? Guys, comee on…I have alot more list but you getting it right? They are not the first to do it. Everyone is elaborating from somewhere…They are still einstein’s around, and i respect them, but others, we are just elaborating – and its ok. Even the designers, design something from a problem, find the solution, and combination of them.

When, Rihanna make a song, similar to another legendary song, but change abit here and there, people say its creative. When beyonce came out with a song, similar “eeh..eh..ehh..” to rihanna, people calls it “current trend”. But when malaysian make a song close to that, “alaa…dia tiru rihanna laa tu..”. hahahah! Typical!

I have been working with other people from overseas and met lots of them, and one thing for sure, i respect them, but i dont see them as the best in everything that they do. They may be good, but not the best. We malaysian are good as well and we have to keep improving. And, yes, i hold my point which saying, no is is the best in what they do. They are good, but there will always be that someone which is better. And above all, He is the best – unquestionably.
