Hantu Lompat

Hallo semua...

Nama saya Hantu Lompat.

(sebab saya dah lompat pi kat B)

Haa...pernah tak korang rasa sebab korang tgh marah, korang nak buat bagi orang lain marah? dan bila orang lain tu marah, korang lega? hahahaha...itu aku laa. aku lompat pi kat orang lain..tapi setakat lompat2 antara orang tu skill lama aku...skill baru aku lompat antara kereta ke kereta..

Haaa...jadi, bila korang bawak keter, ada orang bagi korang sakit hati, pastuh korang rasa macam nak menyusahkan pemandu keter lain, haa..tu aku laa tu...melepak kat sebelah korang. hahahah...! jumpa lagi! bgtau kat kawan2 tau kewujudan aku...aku boring laa aku tak glemer...

Wassalam…

My head board project part 6

The positioning

At first, we were planning to put the pillars on top of the table with the height of the pillars were already measured and it fits perfectly to the ceiling. However, we listed all the pro’s and cons of having it this way…

clip_image002

Since too many bad things might happen, an improvisation was needed. Wifey suggested to have it next to the bed instead (there goes my hidden place for my portable table as it will block the access).

clip_image004clip_image006

So, we put them on the side of the bed. Wifey wanted to paint the wall first before i mount the pillars to the wall. So, from the blue ‘cloudy’ wall, it turned magically into grey…A layer of wall sealing paint was needed though before applying the grey. We painted the table top first before painting the wall. Same methods were used as per painting the pillars/mdf.

Things i used;

1 - 10 pcs of 6mm wall plugs on each side

2 - 5pcs of 4" x 4" steel L bracket on each side

3 - 20 pcs of #8 x 1" self tap screws

clip_image008clip_image010

So, as everything starting to come into place, with wiring and lighting installation done (all properly secured in a junction box and mounted+hidden), wifey had more ideas on how to make the hidden shelves without having to cut more MDF and waste time to paint them again…just buy a small book shelves of 3 tier! We bought them from Tesco for RM10 (2 days later, Tesco reduce the price further to RM8.90..cesss…). The shelves fit right between the gaps between the bed and the wall – initially planned for my hidden table, so we have hidden shelves now installed!

The remaining item;

  1. Wallpaper on the wall in between pillars.
  2. Underbed storage
  3. Head rest
  4. Better switching position for our lightings and fan

Phew…ITS SOOOO FREAKIN’ FUN‼!

My head board project part 4

Painting time!!

clip_image006

How did I apply the paint:

  1. Apply a coat of wood filler to all holes and the surface. Let dry for an hour
  2. Sand with 240-grit wrapped around a wood block
  3. Further fill with wood filler other areas which are not flat. Let dry for half an hour
  4. Sand with 240-grit and finish with a 400-grit sand paper
  5. Spray a thin layer of paint. Let dry for another hour
  6. Further sand with 400-grit and wipe with damp cloth
  7. Spray another thin layer of paint. Let dry for another hour
  8. Again sand with a 400-grit and a damp cloth
  9. Spray final layer of paint. Phew!
  10. Final wipe with baby wipe (to check any sharp edges or anything)

How’s that for a “look soo simple – just spray it on” job…Reason I did them 3 layers is due to the surface wasn’t smooth and it didn’t hid the colour of the wood filler. The final result : astatically satisfied! Smooth and safe for my daughter.

The headboard

To choose the headboard, we had quite a number of choices, but it was more like the combination of all these…

clip_image010clip_image012clip_image014clip_image016

We wished to have similar to those 2 pillars with the square side table on the side, but not liking the visible square shelves on the top of our head but loving the grey background. And, somewhere, we can have some hidden shelves to put books more likely on the side. Plus, I have been dreaming to have a hidden side table, which is movable (with castors) so that I can use them as my laptop table whenever I wanted to use my lappy in bed. Underneath the bed, wifey wanted to have those underbed storage for hiding those blankets and others. So, with the combination of those, in came the sketching and drawing…

The drawing was made using a 3D software – solidworks. but it had to be remove due to the size. too lazy to squash them small.

And so MDF boards were chosen…Brilliant..they are cheap, and strong…but dusty…damn dusty…seriously…no wonder all over the net were talking about how difficult to toy these MDF. But anyhow, 2 pcs of 4’x8’x18thk of MDF boards were purchased and pre-cut to size and deliver to our door step for less than RM200 in total.

My head board project part 5

The flat table

Though all the parts were already being pre-cut to size according to my drawing earlier, I had to cut the holes for our 2-Gang plug socket myself and one 25mm dia. thru holes with a holesaw on each side of the bed (I don’t even know what was it for yet, but thought it might came in handy for those wiring etc. though). The plug will serve as our charging points for our lappies and handphones. I call it, “For Him & For Her plug”. No more rebut2 plug point after this. Hehehee…

Again, cutting and drilling this MDF board is a mess. If you plan to do it at your home, make sure it’s well ventilated and be careful of the exposure of urea formaldehyde. I read it somewhere in the internet it’s not so good for your health – but yet to be proven of its effects?? Hurrmm... Owh yes, make sure you have your safety mask as well – meant for the fine dust. If you being arrogant because you have cut dozens of ply wood and other type of woods before, with this one, you’ll be surprised. Even our supplier (whom helped us to cut them in size whom also a kitchen cabinet maker) was surprised with the level of dust generated.

A 4”x2”x 1meter (L) was bolted with 5 wall plugs. Cant remember the size of the wall plugs though. The result? With additional L brackets to support the end sides, I got myself a pretty darn strong table. I can even jump on it without worry… Really3x..I jumped a couple of times on it…Literally (over designed perhaps).

clip_image002[6]_thumbclip_image004[6]_thumbclip_image006[6]_thumb

clip_image008[6]_thumbclip_image010[6]_thumb

Look at the colour of the wall – its cloudy blue…and its not even a San Cora paint…hehehe…naturally done…heheheh

clip_image012[6]_thumbclip_image014[6]_thumbclip_image016[4]_thumb

As these ‘pillars’ parts were already been cut to size, whats left was to attach them together and patch them up with my lovely wood filler.

How did I attached them together?

  1. Thru hole on the surface board (the ones with the wood filler) sized slightly bigger than my #8 self tap screw and another end was pre-drilled with 2mm hole and counter sunk top with a 8mm bit.
  2. Apply wood glue (put the glue in a small empty bottled water with a hole on the cap – makes life easier applying the glue)
  3. Use L-square to get the angle right
  4. Use #8 x 1" self tap screw to attach them together.

The result? Satisfaction.

Owh, and at first it was supposed to become like a box section, but ended with L shaped. Reason? We found this while googling about bed sheets.

clip_image018[4]_thumb

So we wanted a backlight too…hehehe

Painting MDF

The first thing about painting MDF is – its difficult…! I almost changed my mind on this whole project just because I failed to paint them. I knew I had to have those primers layed on first but, again, I thought a couple layers of spray paint could’ve done the job. Plus, the closest hardware shop to my home was only selling those expensive-industrial ones (5liters), so I figured; I could just dish them off. I’ve wasted 10 SPRAYING CANS (1 can = RM7.80) as MDF will just suck all the paint in (because of the properties of the board itself) while actually, with a good primer, i could’ve just need 3 cans. So, ya…I know. When I read the guide in the net again, I felt like people were saying “we told you so…”. So, ok…*sigh*

How did I paint them – finally:

  1. Used Latex Emulsion paint as a primer. Worked wonders! (I’ve found out from a forum that this could work. I had two 18Liters leftovers white paint from my previous paint job, its more than enough)
  2. Sand 80-Grit, 120-Grit thru to 240-grit with my newly purchased sanding disc attachment which is attached to my cordless drill. The effort spent to sand = speechless. Such an ease to do them…Bought them from ACE Hardware – BOSCH.
  3. Further fill any uneven areas with wood fillers. Wait till dry about an hour.
  4. Sand with 240-Grit
  5. Spray paint about 3 layers with each layers left about an hour before applying the next layer and sand with 240-Grit in between.

Finally, painting is done. Phew!!

My head board project part 3

I had to remove all the ABC rubber mattress that we had for Alissa’s corner first…But surely she’ll be more delighted when she sees that she has her own bed when she comes back…;)

clip_image002clip_image004

Same issue, the block support in Step 3, which I ended up again have to purchase more L-brackets for this. One happy princess when she sees her own Princess Bed in the room!

clip_image006clip_image008

But, nooo…its not over yet..Papa needs to buy some spray cans, so off we go to Tesco…And she had a little fun ride…While papa go shop for more things…

clip_image010

The mattress had to go out of the room again while papa needs to add the side guards on the bed…

clip_image012

2 length of 3”x 15mm wood were purchased earlier being sanded and in came my beloved-trustworthy tool again (finally got the chance to use this jigsaw after months purchasing it). Of to the back room…2pcs of 4”x 2”x 5thk L-brackets were used at one end to attach the side guards to the bed base and another 2pcs of 25mm L-Brackets attaching the side guards to the headboard. I used #8 x 1” self tap screw almost for everything except for the thru screw from the head board to the side guard which was #8 x 3”. Phew! Love those self tap/drill screws.

A tip i learn from the net, always make a thru hole for the first wood before tapping on the second wood…

clip_image014clip_image016clip_image018

Owh, its about that time for Alissa wants to susu and sleep so I had to give the side guards a 120-grit to 240-grit and a further 400-grit sanding before putting back the mattress on it. Decided the next day only will I paint them. Plus, I had no choice but to paint the bed inside our room, the bed can’t go thru the doors anymore by this time. p/s : wifey doing the ‘peace’ sign..she’s happy seeing that things about to turn out right – after seeing me mumbling and complaining about everything the whole day...hehehe

My head board project part 2

Unpacking!!

clip_image002clip_image004clip_image006

“S! The quality of the mattress base is totally eff up!”, that was my first comment when I saw them. The above photos are my comparison between my current bed base, with the new ones. The thickness difference is significant, and so are the material! So, I decided not to use my new base and replace them with my old base..No wonder they are so darn cheap. *sigh*

The installation!

clip_image002[4]

My beloved-trustworthy tools...hehehe…

clip_image004[4]clip_image006[4]clip_image008

After half way completing the queen bed, its then only I realize there is this ‘assembly instruction’ included…WTH, I’m half way done, dish the instruction, I’ll do it my way…- or so I thought…

clip_image010

Check out STEP 3. I was wondering what was that about…then I realize, I guess them designers knew the bed base is not that strong which was why they decided to have those supporting blocks installed in place. I wasn’t going to worry about that since I’m planning to replace the base with my old base (Remember? The thicker ones?) – or so I thought…

clip_image012

Tadaaa…!! It doesn’t fit. My old ones is smaller..sigh..so I guess, I have no choice than having the original base and using the step 3, which I proudly laughed about just now...now, I have to eat it *sigh*

clip_image014clip_image016clip_image018

The design for the block support wasn’t that good which I complaint over and over during the installation. “One screw holding the block? Definitely it will move!! Pivot point? Duuh! The location to screw them is so close to the edge of it, off coz it will crack. Stupid designers…arghh!!” – and it cracked when I screw them in – just like i thought it would. So, after the installation, I ended up installing additional 25mm L-Bracket to it, with 4 screws attached. Firm and strong…Finally some confidence to the structure. hehehee

Up comes the mattress. Yeaa! Next up, single beds.
